California Should Not Bar Access to Justice

In most civil cases in California state courts, one side is unrepresented by counsel. Legal ethics professors Nora Engstrom of Stanford Law School and Scott Cummings of UCLA School of Law say this could be remedied by licensing certain non-lawyers to provide basic legal assistance. However, there is a bill opposing this, which they urge lawmakers to amend.
